The Government agrees with the telecommunications operators to compensate in the invoices the interruption of the service by DANA

• The compensation will be automatic to each user of telecommunications services and will be, at a minimum, proportional to the time the interruption has lasted • The Government stresses the collaboration to implement this measure and appreciates the great work of the operators to restore telecommunications services as quickly as possible • This new measure of the Government’s social shield can be extended by additional measures more beneficial to the consumer or end user

Madrid, November 11, 2024.- The Government of Spain has approved a Royal Decree that includes, among many others, the measure agreed with telecommunications operators to automatically compensate in the bills of all users the interruptions of the services they have suffered because of the recent Isolated Depression in High Levels (DANA).

The Council of Ministers, on the proposal of the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Service, has promoted this measure to apply it without the need for consumers to request it, thus allowing those affected to receive an economic adjustment that is at least proportional to the time their service was interrupted, and that will be reflected in their next bills.

This measure aims to alleviate the consequences of the interruption of the telecommunications service that impacted many users due to the widespread damage to infrastructures caused by DANA throughout the Spanish territory. The floods have also caused significant damage to telecommunication networks that have made it difficult to maintain the operability of telecommunications services in the affected areas.

Each invoice affected will clearly reflect the date, duration of the interruption and the exact calculation of the corresponding compensation, without a request or prior communication by the subscriber being necessary. In addition, existing contracts, urgent regulations adopted to deal with DANA and other applicable regulations may include additional measures to the benefit of consumers that go beyond the scope of this automatic compensation.

Great collaboration and work of telecommunication operators

The Government of Spain has appreciated the collaboration and work of the telecommunications operators, who have been working intensively since the beginning of these rainy episodes to restore services as quickly as possible.

The Executive also specifies that this social shield initiative is complemented by the possibility of any other emergency regulations applicable for the purposes of DANA, as well as additional measures that operators offer in favor of consumers.
