The JU Chips Joint Undertaking (JU) is a European tripartite partnership involving the European Commission, Member States and the European industry that drives the development and adoption of advanced nanoelectronic chip technologies and systems manufactured in Europe.
In the coming years, the Chip Joint Undertaking will develop, together with the European nanoelectronics community and the Member States, a strong portfolio that will include several pilot lines in order to promote:
- Advanced Nanoelectronics Technologies
- A platform for advanced chip design
- A wide range of projects using these technologies to innovate across the entire value chain in the areas of mobility, energy, health, robotics and chip manufacturing
- This portfolio of actions will be supported by a network of Europe-wide competition centres that will facilitate access to these actions for emerging companies, SMEs, universities and large European companies.
The general objectives of the Chip Joint Undertaking are:
- strengthening the EU's strategic autonomy in electronic components and systems to meet the future needs of vertical industries and the economy in general
- establish EU scientific excellence and innovation leadership in relation to emerging component and system technologies, and promote the active participation of SMEs
- ensuring that component and system technologies address Europe's social and environmental challenges;
- enabling the development and deployment of state-of-the-art semiconductor technologies, state-of-the-art quantum technologies and the innovation of established technologies that will strengthen the advanced capabilities of design, system integration and chip production in the EU
