The Data Economy: a new axis of transformation
Data has become the epicentre of human activity. All of us constantly consume and generate data, whether consciously or unconsciously. This continuous production takes place day and night; through simple devices or through complex ‘gadgets’ and advanced technologies; in open or closed spaces; in motion or at rest.
Los datos, especialmente en el contexto actual, deben ser considerados como un activo estratégico. We’re talking about an information ecosystem that interacts and interweaves with data from billions of devices, sensors, machines, and smart systems. An ecosystem that is already in our lives
Therefore, it is advisable to understand this transformation. That is precisely the desire we are pursuing in the Directorate-General for Data, as a body responsible for promoting the intelligent and shared use of data between public administrations, companies and citizens.
Our goal is for data to become an engine of innovation, improvement of public services and economic development, always in line with Europe’s digital strategies., offering a clear and documented vision of the value and potential of data, addressing the growing role of the Data Economy, its influence in the public and private sectors, and the impact it is generating in society.
To achieve this, we coordinate data-based digitization policies, promote the creation of data spaces where they can be shared securely, and thus promote their reuse. This allows us to support and improve public decision-making with reliable, data-driven information. This also encourages research, innovation and the ethical use of data in all areas.
We want data to work for people, companies and institutions to help us build a more efficient, transparent and innovative society.
On this page we will discover innovative projects that with the intelligent use of data can improve the quality of life of people, enhance business competitiveness, facilitate the work of the scientific community and optimize public management by institutions, showing some concrete examples.
The promotion of the data economy is led by the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Service, through the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Public Service.
