After the expiry of the current regulation on roaming on 30 June 2022, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union approved last April to extend the roaming (“Mobile as at home roaming”) so that users can continue to call, text and surf the Internet free of charge until 2032.
The proposed new regulation on roaming on public mobile communications networks in the Union will benefit European citizens, businesses and operators alike.
The new Regulation revised roaming will bring new benefits to consumers, as maximum wholesale tariffs are adjusted to ensure that the provision of these retail services at national prices is sustainable for operators throughout the European Union.
It also offers greater transparency in the event that services may be subject to additional costs, and better protection for consumers against high bills caused by involuntary roaming on public non-terrestrial mobile networks when they are on board ferries or aircraft.
The standard also provides for measures to ensure a good customer experience in terms of quality of service and access to emergency services, in particular for people with special needs, and the policy of reasonable use, designed to prevent permanent roaming, will remain in force.
