Cybersecurity and 5G deployment

The 5G is the fifth generation of mobile networks, due to its technical characteristics, it allows permanent, ubiquitous, high-capacity and high-speed connections between people and machines.
Boosting the deployment of 5G technology is one of the priorities of the Recovery Plan and the 5G Cybersecurity Act is one of the reforms committed in the Plan.
The approval of the “5G Cybersecurity Law” is included as one of the reforms of Component 15 of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan dedicated to “Digital connectivity, cybersecurity promotion and 5G deployment”, and in particular, it is foreseen as Hito CID 235 “the entry into force of the 5G Cybersecurity Law”
The standard, in force since March 31, creates a reliable and secure framework to encourage deployment and investment by telecom operators and, at the same time, demand for services by users.
5G technology is accompanied by a great potential for disruptive change, with a multiplier impact on business productivity, materializing this impact in terms of GDP growth and the creation of new jobs. It is a change that will affect not only the economic sphere but all orders: personnel, services, health, leisure, entertainment. To this end, the immediate availability of 5G services for all socio-economic actors in the country will be encouraged.
Main challenges and objectives
- Extension of a Sustainable Cybersecurity Culture for citizens and companies
- Development and strengthening of the cybersecurity industry
- Identification, transformation and development of the necessary cybersecurity talent.
- Supporting the accelerated deployment of technology by making available the necessary spectrum resources in the priority 5G bands and developing a reliable and secure environment for deployment.
- Strengthening economic, social and territorial cohesion, closing digital gaps and providing the country with the necessary connectivity to increase its resilience in the face of future crises, accelerating the deployment of 5G in areas that traditional deployment models of operators would not reach immediately.
- Transformation of the productive sectors and the transition to a new economic and social model, promoting the development of cases of use of 5G technology.
- Consolidation of Spain as one of the leading countries in the technological deployment of 5G/6G, promoting R+D+I on this technology, in particular in the field of 5G cybersecurity.
The value of the investment in component 15 of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan: digital connectivity, boost to cybersecurity and 5G deployment goes beyond the volume of resources mobilized in a broader context of contributing to economic and social improvement, thanks to the multidimensional deployment, promotion and implementation of innovation and digital tools. During the development of the Plan, a total public investment is projected for this component of 3,998.6 M€ that will be destined to the areas of 5G, Connectivity and Cybersecurity.
