Providers of audiovisual radio communication services using Hertzian waves are the holders of a license for the provision of this service of general interest, regardless of the technology used for it. Currently some emit with analog technology (medium wave - OM or frequency modulation - FM) and others with digital terrestrial technology. On the other hand, radio audiovisual services may have national or local coverage.
The regulations of the sector grant the competence over the licenses to provide audiovisual radio communication services that broadcast on medium waves, whatever their scope of coverage, and those of national level that do so with digital terrestrial technology to the General Administration of the State, while those that use the modulated frequency, in general, correspond to the respective Autonomous Communities (except those attributed to the direct management of Radio Nacional de España).
