Success of the Sandbox IA Infoday: More than 300 registrants attest to its relevance in the innovation sector.

The Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, through its Office for Digital Spain 2030 and Internationalization, organized a successful Infoday to present the bases of the call for Sandbox IA aimed at high-risk systems. The event managed to bring together more than 300 participants, both face-to-face and telematically, reflecting the great interest generated by this initiative.

The Secretary of State, María González Veracruz, endorsed and recognized the project as a determined commitment of the Government to support companies, especially SMEs and Startups on their path to innovation and regulatory compliance.

During the event, a round table was held in which different aspects of the AI Regulation could be discussed, doubts could be resolved, perspectives could be exchanged and improvements could be proposed for the future of Artificial Intelligence.

Finally, the leaders of the Sandbox IA presented the bases of the call to the attendees and provided a space for exchange of ideas with them, promoting a constructive dialogue on the details of the project.

On March 29, 2025, the Sandbox IA Kick-off event was held, aimed at the participating entities – suppliers, system deployers and collaborators – of the selected high-risk artificial intelligence systems. This event was attended by the EU AI Office, which underlines the importance of this initiative.

This event marks the beginning of the operational phase of the Sandbox IA, which will run for approximately 12 to 13 months. This stage begins with the training phase on the implementation requirements of the AI Regulation for high-risk systems. Throughout the process, participants will receive high-level public consulting, which will help them in the process of adapting their AI systems for regulatory compliance.

As a result of this experience with 12 high-risk AI systems, technical guides will be generated to implement the requirements and good practices, which will be published for use by all AI developers in Spain.

The main objective of this sandbox is to support the Spanish ecosystem in compliance with the AI Regulation, promoting competitiveness and reducing the regulatory burden, with special focus on startups and SMEs.

To this end, and in order to promote a greater diversity of artificial intelligence systems that allow better understanding and analysis of their implications in the sectors defined as high risk by the AI Regulation, the following AI systems are selected:
