The Spanish Artificial Intelligence Sandbox has been a pioneering space to anticipate, analyze and implement the requirements of the European Artificial Intelligence Regulation in an environment of collaboration between public administrations, companies, participating entities and experts. Throughout the process, the project has made it possible to identify relevant lessons on the practical application of the regulatory framework, the challenges associated with the development and deployment of AI systems, and the needs of accompaniment, governance and supervision posed by a safe, responsible and aligned artificial intelligence with European values.
The conclusions of this sandbox reflect the main results and reflections derived from this experience. Its objective is to synthesize the lessons learned, highlight the aspects that have contributed to the development of the first regulatory testing environment for AI in Europe and provide useful guidelines for future initiatives, both in Spain and throughout the European Union.
