Maps of Broadband services in Spain

The Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures publishes interactive maps of broadband services, offering citizens to know the availability of connectivity, with a level of detail that is useful to them to support their choice of service provider.

Level of geographical detail: One map is provided for fixed technologies and another for mobile technologies.

• Map of Fixed Broadband Services: Separating wired networks: optical fiber and/or coaxial cable -HFC- from fixed service wireless networks -FWA-. The minimum geographical unit represented is the cadastral plot. Cadastral plots with fixed broadband coverage are represented.

  The tool allows searches using the panel located at the top of the map, by address and/or by 14-digit cadastral reference in the common territory or assimilated in the foral territories.

• Map of Mobile Broadband Services: The service areas served by each base station are represented, with a minimum grid resolution of 50 meters x 50 meters, for 4G and 5G mobile access technologies. A location has 4G or 5G mobile coverage if it is in the coverage area of at least one network.

  The tool allows you to perform searches using the panel located at the top of the map by direction.

Attributes of Information that are provided:

• Social designation of telecommunications operators offering broadband service on each plot (in the case of fixed networks) or in each service area (in the case of mobile networks), with indication of the technology. Being a service map, it includes the availability not only of the operators who own the notified infrastructure (network owners) but also of other operators who offer the connectivity service through commercial agreements to share the corresponding infrastructure. Mobile infrastructure services could be provided by virtual mobile operators with corresponding interconnection agreements with network operators. In the legend of the lower panel you can consult the hyperlinks to the web pages of the telecommunications operators.
• Additionally, on the Fixed Broadband Services Map for wired networks:
  • The operator who has the infrastructure of his/her property in that direction is marked in bold print.
  • Indication of whether the plot is located in a competitive or non-competitive area and the implications of this consideration through a link to the CNMC website (this reference is labeled at the municipality level).
  • Indication, where appropriate, that the infrastructure has been deployed with public aid.
• Reference is made in the left panel to the areas that are the subject of deployment commitments with the Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service, under the UNICO Broadband Programme, referring to the aid portal UNICO-Broadband, where viewing maps are provided by call for aid with the areas included in the projects granted. It is also referred to consult the UNICO-Rural Demand Program in case the plot does not have coverage with minimum transmission speed of 50Mbps.
• The maximum lowering speed offered by the set of operators that provide service in each location is represented in different tonalities, except in the case of 4G mobile technology, where the presence of operators that provide service to the area is represented.

The map of broadband services responds to the mandate established in Article 22 of the European Code of Electronic Communications (Directive (EU) 2018/1972 of the European Parliament and of the Council, of December 11, 2018, hereinafter CECE), to make available to citizens information tools that allow them to determine the availability of connectivity in different areas.

The methodology developed by the State Secretariat of Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures is aligned with the recommendations of BEREC (Body of European Regulators of Electronic Communications, which in Spain is represented by the CNMC) for the preparation of these maps.

The information represented in these maps is processed from the data provided by the telecommunications operators themselves.

The publication of these maps contributes to the improvement of transparency, equality and symmetry of information about the geographical presence of broadband in a location, in an open and competitive market context.
