The Europe 2020 strategy, which defines the European Union's cohesion policy for the period 2014-2020, creates the basis for smarter growth, through the development of knowledge and innovation, more sustainable, based on a greener, more effective and more competitive and inclusive economy, aimed at strengthening employment, social cohesion and territorial cohesion.
In order to contribute to this strategy and promote economic, social and territorial cohesion, 5 European Structural and Investment Funds have been defined: European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), European Social Fund (ESF), Cohesion Fund (CF), European Agricultural and Rural Development Fund (EAFRD) and European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF).
The Multiregional Operational Programme of Spain (POPE) ERDF 2014-2020, specifies the strategy and intervention objectives of the General Administration of the State co-financed with the ERDF. Intelligent growth objectives are proposed: to contribute to the improvement and recovery of the competitiveness of the Spanish economy, through the promotion of a model of intelligent growth, supported by research, innovation and ICT, with special attention to the needs and potential of SMEs and, of sustainable growth: promotion of an economy that uses resources more effectively, that is greener and more competitive.
Equality between women and men is a fundamental value of the European Union enshrined in the Treaties and is one of its fundamental objectives. The regulation of the European Structural Funds integrates as a horizontal principle equality between men and women, the generalisation of the consideration of gender and the integration of the gender perspective in the management of programmes.
The aforementioned Funds contribute to the achievement of up to 11 Thematic Objectives, which, in turn, are concretized in Investment Priorities defined in each Fund.
