The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) aims to accelerate investment in the field of trans-European networks that facilitate cross-border connections, through high-performance modern and multimodal infrastructures in their digital, transport and energy sectors, which contribute to the interconnection and integration of the Union and all its island territories and regions, promoting greater economic, social and territorial cohesion.
El Regulation 2021/1153 establishing the Connecting Europe Facility sets out the objectives of the EFC, its budget for the period 2021-2027, the forms of Union funding and the rules for granting such funding.
In the digital sector (CEF Digital), the objective is to contribute to the development of projects of common interest relating to the deployment of and access to secure digital networks, including 5G systems, and to increasing the resilience and capacity of digital backbone networks in Union territories by linking them to neighbouring territories, as well as to the digitisation of transport and energy networks
