The National Artificial Intelligence Strategy aims to provide a frame of reference for the development of an inclusive, sustainable and citizen-focused AI.
ENIA is one of the axes of the Agenda Spain Digital 2026 and one of the components of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Spanish economy.
The ENIA will improve the preparation of the Spanish productive fabric in order to boost its competitiveness at European and international level. It is therefore a fundamental step in the commitment to the digital transformation of the economy and society through the development of disruptive technologies of high added value.
The Digital Spain Strategy 2026 sets a series of objectives in relation to Artificial Intelligence and the Data Economy:
- To turn Spain into a reference in the transformation towards a Data Economy.
- Promote Artificial Intelligence as a driver of innovation and social, inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
- Establish regulatory frameworks that delimit and guide the design of AI, so that the resulting applications respect the rights of citizens.
- Promote data and technology infrastructures, which support AI.
- Strengthen competitiveness through R&D activities in all Digital Enabling Technologies (THD).
The Digital Spain Strategy 2026 presents a series of measures and actions in the field of AI and the Data Economy:
- Creation of the Office of Data and the figure of Chief Data Officer
- Implementation of the Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council
- Publication of the Charter of Digital Rights
- Approval of the National Plan of Language Technologies
- PERTE: New Language Economy
- Inciativa Quantum Spain, strategic project of supercomputing
- GAIS-X, hub Spanish for National Development of Sectoral Data Space and Data Management
- National Program of Green Algortimos (PNAV)
- Sandbox regulatory for the implementation of the future European AI Regulation
- Creation of the National Center for Neurotechnologies
- Creation of the National Agency for Artificial Intelligence Supervision
Until 2026, actions will continue to be promoted to meet the objectives in the framework of Artificial Intelligence and the Data Economy: promote an ethical and regulatory framework for the deployment of AI; promote R+D+I; promote the attraction of national and international talent; promote the creation of data and technological infrastructures; and integrate AI into the value chains of the industrial fabric.
