Virtual event within the framework of the United Nations Public Service Day

24/06/2021

On 23 June, the United Nations Public Service Day was celebrated. To mark this date, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), in collaboration with the Government of the United Arab Emirates, organized a virtual event under the motto "Innovating the future public administration: new models of government for a new era to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals".

According to the United Nations, in the current context states need to rethink the structure and operational model of their public administration at the threshold of the third decade of the 21st century. In the next era there will be fundamental changes in the way public officials are recruited, trained and retained. More use will be made of technology to make better decisions, monitor performance and provide services, and the private sector and society at large will need to play a more important role in all aspects of public value creation. The future of public service must be more agile, with knowledge of technology, data-driven and people-centred. These are basic elements for increasing future preparedness, ensuring inclusive policies and responsive services, reducing inequalities and increasing trust in government.

This event, which served to pay tribute to the work of public officials, brought together the main actors in this area, public employees and employees from various administrations and also from the UN.
