The Ministry for Digital Transformation strengthens telephone number 017 as a line of advice on the access of minors to inappropriate content

  • The National Cybersecurity Institute (Incibe), under the Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service, has reinforced the telephone number 017, which helps in cybersecurity, giving it a new utility to advise on the access of minors to inappropriate content. The Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, Mayte Ledo, has announced the new capacity of 017 to advise parents, teachers, tutors and, even, the children themselves, in terms of consultation and reporting of inappropriate content, during the event held on the occasion of Safe Internet Day (Internet Safety Day).

    To take on this new role, the 017 staff has been strengthened with profiles specialized in minors, which add to the experts in cybersecurity and psychosocial care that the service already has. Among the issues that can be addressed by calling 017 within this new functionality are general information on parental mediation, how to use parental control tools or how to filter inappropriate content. Children’s educators or guardians may also call 017 for advice.

    In addition, an information campaign on this new capacity of the line will be launched in the coming weeks.

    The Incibe has the capacity to handle 20,000 calls per month at 017 and, if necessary, could be resized with greater capacity. En 2023 atendió a más de 80.000 llamadas para consultas sobre ciberseguridad.
