The European Commission launches a public consultation on the future harmonisation of numbering resources for the provision of commercial services.
The review of the regulatory framework for electronic communications services in the European Union reinforces the objective of achieving a single market through, among other means, the harmonisation of numbering resources. On the other hand, the Digital Agenda for Europe identifies the harmonisation of numbering as one of the key elements for the creation of the single market in European telecommunications. In particular, it points out that further harmonisation could help manufacturers and marketers in their sales, after-sales services and customer service, by employing a single number across Europe.
