In this week's video we present Raquel, belonging to the Customs Surveillance Service, who explains that "they are the police, within the Tax Agency, specialized in the investigation of crimes of smuggling, money laundering and the black economy". It recommends opposing the Customs Surveillance Service, as "the sacrifice and dedication associated with the selective process will be worth it".

Customs officers, men and women, are officers of the authority (fiscal police and judicial police). Its actions are aimed at the suppression of smuggling offences and offences, the fight against drug trafficking and other related crimes such as money laundering, excise and other tax fraud and the shadow economy. For this reason, they have extensive training in administrative, criminal and procedural law, Community, tax, customs and smuggling legislation.

At present, the staff of the Customs Surveillance Corps are integrated into the following Corps:

  • Corps of Agents of the Customs Surveillance Service, Research and Maritime specialties.
  • Executive Body of the Customs Surveillance Service, Research, Navigation, Propulsion and Communications specialties.
  • Higher Customs Surveillance Corps, Research, Navigation, Propulsion and Communications specialties.

The way to become a Customs Surveillance official is done through a selection process that is part of the State Public Employment Offer and that, depending on the Body to which you choose, requires a specific qualification.

In the Customs Surveillance Area, 1850 officials currently perform their duties, of which 984 belong to the Research specialty and 866 to the different maritime specialties. All of them are allowed to carry weapons, so there are individual weapons among the operational means. On the other hand, staff members have the status of judicial police, a mission for which monitoring and monitoring equipment and technology and a comprehensive system of legal interception of communications are used.

Customs Surveillance has a fleet of 37 vessels (equipped with fixed armaments) and 10 aircraft.
