- In a global context with more than 500 silicon-based semiconductor factories and fewer than 20 operating with alternative materials, Ideaded places Spain among the pioneering countries in the development of sustainable microchips, a key technological area for the future of the global industry.
- This investment is part of PERTE CHIP and is part of the Government’s strategy to strengthen national industrial and technological leadership, supporting projects that combine innovation, sustainability and market transfer.
The Government of Spain has today formalized its participation in the Spanish microelectronics company Ideaded, with a public investment of 9.5 million euros signed today in Viladecans by Javier Ponce, general director of the Spanish Society for Technological Transformation (SETT).
Thanks to this co-investment, which takes place alongside the entry into the company’s capital of other investment partners in addition to SETT, the company will acquire new machinery and complete its pilot plant in Viladecans, with the aim of reaching a capacity of 50 wafers per month. The first internally manufactured wafer is expected to see light in the second half of 2026, with an expanded production phase in 2027.
Founded in Girona in 2015 and based in Viladecans (Barcelona), Ideaded develops sustainable microchips based on alternative silicon materials and flexible substrates, with applications in distribution, logistics, pharmacy and computing, and with enormous strategic potential in artificial intelligence, high-performance computing or defense.
Its focus on new materials and efficient processes positions it as a pioneering company in technologies Beyond Silicon, those that explore materials capable of overcoming the physical limitations of silicon, a key advance in the evolution of the microelectronics industry.
Since May 2025, the company also has a machine capable of manufacturing 300 million RFID (radio frequency identification) antennas per year, a technology used for product tracking and inventories in real time. These new antennas will be produced with unpublished materials in the sector and through processes that are 300% more efficient and sustainable.
In a global context with more than 500 silicon-based semiconductor factories and fewer than 20 operating with alternative materials, Ideaded places Spain among the pioneering countries in the development of sustainable microchips, a key technological area for the future of the global industry.
The Catalan company stands out for its commitment to research and investment in R&D, and for its role in the creation of a national microelectronics ecosystem, collaborating with the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and with the Cátedras Chip program, promoted by the Government of Spain.
SETT’s investment is part of PEARL Chipwhich aims to strengthen national industrial and technological leadership, supporting projects that combine innovation, sustainability and market transfer. The implementation of the PERTE Chip fund, foreseen by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, and financed by the European Union – Next Generation funds, is among the functions of the SETT, which, in addition, manages two more financial instruments to enhance the technological business ecosystem: Next Tech, dedicated to disruptive technologies, and Spain Audiovisual Hub, which drives the digitization of the audiovisual sector.
