The Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service together with the UIMP promotes an Advanced Course on Artificial Intelligence

Madrid, June 10, 2024.- The Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Service, in collaboration with the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP), has launched a Summer Course with the title "Artificial Intelligence: Current Challenges and Future Challenges", coinciding with the launch of the Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2024 of the Government of Spain. The course will take place from June 24 to 26 at the Palacio de la Magdalena (Santander) and will be led by Manuel González Bedia, Director General of Strategic Planning in Advanced Digital Technologies and New Language Economy at the Ministry.

Course objectives

The main objective of the course is to address the scientific, social and political implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI), exploring the socio-economic implications that shape the priorities of its research and application. It focuses on promoting public and transparent AI as the basis of the country’s digital transformation policy, strengthening national technological sovereignty and technological capabilities, in line with the Strategy adopted by the Council of Ministers Last May 14th.

Course Program

The course is divided into three thematic blocks that will be developed over three days:

  1. Debate on the Policies for Promoting Artificial Intelligence
  2. Situation of the Investigation: Scientific and Transfer Dilemmas
  3. Regulation and Social Impact

International speakers such as Paul S will participate in the sessions. Adler, and other national scientists such as Daniel Innerarity, Julia Pareto or Antonio Bahamonde.

The inauguration of the course will be presided over by the Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Service, José Luis Escrivá. The Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, Mayte Ledo, will also participate. Both will set out the Government’s priorities in this area.

This course is designed for AI researchers, economists, specialists in innovation and technological impact, sociologists, philosophers, experts in scientific policy and all those interested in participating in the debate on the principles and policy recommendations that should guide the development of AI.
