Madrid, April 8, 2024.- The Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function, through its Secretary of State for Digitization and Artificial Intelligence, has opened the process of presenting candidacies to occupy the General Directorate of the Spanish Agency for Supervision of Artificial Intelligence (AESIA).
Through an Expression of Interest, people interested in the position will be able to present their candidacy, accrediting the experience and qualities that qualify them as suitable for the position.
The process will be open until the next 9th of May.
The applications received will be evaluated individually by a Selection and Evaluation Court that will be appointed in the coming days by the Presidency of the AESIA.
After the decision of this court, the President of the AESIA (in this case, the holder of the Secretary of State for Digitization and Artificial Intelligence), will submit to the Governing Council of the AESIA the chosen candidacy for the General Directorate, and the Governing Council will be responsible for appointing it officially, as provided by the Executive Board. Article 16 of the Statute of the Agency, approved by Royal Decree 729/2023.
The Directorate General of the Agency
The holder of the Directorate-General of the AESIA shall be responsible, inter alia, for the following functions:
- The direction and ordinary management of the Agency.
- Present to the Governing Council the annual action plans and the general activity report of the previous year.
- Design and implement the Agency’s strategy and objectives.
- Promote proper coordination with all the agents of the sector, within the scope of their competences.
- To propose to the Governing Council the appointment and dismissal of the person holding the General Secretariat and of the persons holding the other executive bodies.
Requirements to hold the General Directorate
Due to the relevance of the Agency in the national technological ecosystem, and the role it is called upon to occupy at the international level, the person who holds the General Directorate of this body must be a reference profile in the field that, among others, accredits the following characteristics:
- Academic and technical experience in the field of Artificial Intelligence, showing a solid understanding of algorithms, foundational models and different AI tools.
- Management and leadership skills, being able to lead a multidisciplinary team and manage human and economic resources effectively.
- Legal knowledge and ethical perspective, being familiar with the state of global regulatory frameworks in this field and with a deep mastery of the ethical challenges posed by the advance of this technology.
- Network of contacts, possessing the ability to generate a network of contacts with the leaders and fundamental actors of the industry, both in the business sphere and in the academic and institutional spheres.
Spanish AI Supervision Agency
In addition to carrying out supervision, advice, awareness and training tasks aimed at entities of the Artificial Intelligence ecosystem for the proper implementation of all national and European regulations, the Agency will be the driving force behind the debates on ethics and security that must be guaranteed while promoting innovation and development of this technology.
This exercise focused on the thought and generation of knowledge about Artificial Intelligence itself will be a large part of the daily activity of AESIA, and fundamental to establish its importance at national and international level.
The AESIA will issue guides of good practices for the development and use of foundational models and Artificial Intelligence systems.
