The promotion of 5G technology is one of the axes of the Agenda Spain Digital 2026. The 5G Technology Drive Strategy is the backbone of the objectives and measures included in Spain Digital 2026 To take advantage of the emergence of this new technology in the economic transformation.
To make viable and efficient the coexistence of a huge number of new technologies and multiple electronic devices, the hyperconnectivity provided by 5G emerges as a key element: permanent, ubiquitous, high-capacity, high-speed connections between people and between machines, without delays, safe and reliable.
The economic impact of 5G will mean investments worth more than 5 billion euros and the creation of more than 300,000 jobs in our country.
The Strategy includes a series of actions encompassed in different Action Lines, around three Axes:
- A radio spectrum enabled for 5G services
- Effective support for the deployment of 5G networks and services
- A regulatory and administrative framework that stimulates the deployment of 5G technology
To carry out the different lines of action, a series of measures are proposed:
- To promote, through appropriate public tenders and other administrative procedures, the provision of information to the public sector. radio spectrum bandsthe 700 MHz and the 26 GHz, so that they can be used for the deployment of 5G technologies and services.
- Achieving greater spectrum availability for 5G technology and services, through the reordering the use of certain bands, or through enabling for 5G of those harmonised in Europe for electronic communications services.
- Make available to operators and other public and private actors involved in the deployment of networks, a set of incentives and support resources that stimulate and facilitate 5G network deployments in population centres and in primary and secondary transport corridors.
- Promote the demand for 5G services and technologies, through the Support and promotion of major digitisation projects de sectores que demanden uso intensivo de 5G, así como mediante el Fostering true public-private ecosystems that promote innovation, entrepreneurship, cybersecurity and talent around 5G networks, technologies and services.
- Reduce costs and increase the deployment speed of 5G,through the administrative simplification of those procedures and administrative procedures that generate greater economic costs and opportunity for the different private agents.
- Providing a normative framework to streamline the deployment of 5G, and generate a regulatory context that strengthens the legal security of operators and users of 5G services.
In order to respond to the objectives set out in this Strategy and to develop its measures, a first budgetary estimate of the actions of the “5G Technology Boost Strategy” which includes the necessary investment over the period 2021-2025 adding public investment budgets (own resources of the Kingdom of Spain), EU funds (economic resources from the Community budget, where the use of CEF2 funds and from the Plan of Reforms and Investments, among others, is foreseen) and private financing.
Due to the importance attached to the objectives of this Strategy at both European and State level, the public resources that are planned to be mobilised for the 5G Technology Boost in five years they amount to 2 billion euros.
