The Open Government Alliance elects Spain as a new member of its Steering Committee and recognizes the country’s commitment to democracy and citizens’ rights

The Open Government Partnership (OGP) has selected Spain as a new member of its Steering Committee. This designation, which demonstrates the Spanish commitment to transparency, accountability, citizen participation and integrity, will allow Spain to participate actively in decision-making and assume the responsibility of developing, promoting and safeguarding the values, principles and interests of PGOs and establishing the central rules of the organization.

The appointment to be part of the Steering Committee, a joint body consisting of 22 members, has taken place following the elections convened annually to appoint the successors of the member countries whose mandate has expired. With his election as an elected member of the Steering Committee, the Government of Spain has been recognized by the Alliance as a country committed to transparency, accountability, citizen participation and integrity.

This appointment will enable Spain to aspire to ensure that the values of the Open Government become genuine citizens' rights to good governance and good administration, in favour of democracy and full social inclusion.

The news of the election of Spain as a member of the Steering Committee of the Alliance for the Open Government marks the end of the 2023 Open Administration Week that took place between 20 and 24 March.
