The Directorate-General for Civil Service has published the update to January 2020 of the evolution of staff in the service of public administrations.
Of the 2,597,712 personnel serving in public administrations, over half work in the Autonomous Communities, 1,514,126 (58 per cent), followed by the local administration, 570,819 (22 per cent of the total) and the State, 512,767 (20 per cent).
In the ten years between 1 January 2010 and 1 January 2020, public administrations have decreased their strength on average by 4%, although the distribution is uneven depending on the area concerned.
The Administration of Justice increased by 7% and 5% for CCAA and the State respectively, followed by Health Institutions (5%), Non-University Teaching (3%), Universities (3%) and State Security Forces and Bodies (2%).
The rest of the Areas have experienced a decrease, from 12% for the Armed Forces to 22% for the case of State Administration. In these two cases it should be noted, however, that in 2020 for the first time the number of troops has increased by 1% in each of them, respectively, compared to the previous year, which may indicate a change in trend.
