The Minister of Justice opened the III Conference on Justice and Equality, under the title "The Role of Justice in Achieving Equality between Men and Women" organized by the Ministry of Justice to commemorate International Women's Day. In the course of the event, the I Equality Plan for the Administration of Justice has been announced for the purpose of setting up a working group with the whole sector of Justice and women's groups.
The Conference takes place on 4 and 5 March at the Palacio de Parcent (San Bernardo, 62, Madrid), on the occasion of the celebration of the International Women’s Day, on 8 March.
In his inaugural address, the Minister of Justice presented data showing gender inequality, such as the wage gap (23%) or the minority of women in senior management positions (16%). And also in the world of justice: women make up 54% of the judiciary in Spain, however, they are less than 20% in the Supreme Court; or from 1980 to today, only 18% of the members of the CGPJ have been women, and only an equal balance has been achieved in this last mandate.
Campo has pointed out that major steps have been taken since the 1995 Beijing Conference. "Spain has also advanced and consider us a reference, but we must not forget that the challenge is so great and we have so many things to do, that the satisfaction to achieve it can only drive us to action."
During the Conference, five round tables will be held on various topical issues related to this area, involving leading figures from academia, politics, the judiciary, the prosecution service and the Administration of Justice.
The closure, scheduled for 5 a.m. to 13 p.m., will be carried out by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government and Minister of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Democratic Memory, Carmen Calvo, who will be accompanied by the Minister of Justice.
