On 4 March, the Transparency Portal published the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation’s Report on Equality in Foreign Policy and Development Cooperation.
The report shows that the promotion of gender equality and non-discrimination is a priority in the foreign policy of human rights and one of its hallmarks of identity, as it has been consolidated as one of the hallmarks of our most internationally recognised cooperation.
Spanish cooperation, through its employees and public employees, has promoted and accompanied public policies on gender equality, political, social and economic empowerment of women and the fight against gender violence in all countries, in compliance with the Beijing Platform for Action and the 2030 Agenda.
In 2018, a Special Mission Ambassador for Gender Equality in Foreign Policy was appointed, responding to the desire to take a step further in the implementation of the gender approach through the consolidation and visibility of equality policy as a transversal policy, but with its own entity within the Spanish foreign policy.
These policies have also been directed towards those employed and public employees working in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation who are called to perform a large part of their work abroad and in a reflection to promote structural changes that will facilitate a greater presence of women in leadership positions in the formulation of Spanish foreign policy.
