The number of public employees is 2,598,481, according to the latest statistical bulletin of staff in the service of public administrations for July 2010.
Of these, more than half (58.84%) serve in the public sector of the Autonomous Communities, followed by 21.31% in the public sector of the Local Government and 19.86% in the public sector of the State.
The evolution in the number of employees compared to the previous semesters (January 2020) shows an overall increase of 769. The largest increase occurred among AACC staff, with 14,791 additional staff, followed by the public sector of the State with an increase of 3,164 staff. The Local Administration, however, has reduced its strength by 17,186.
As for the type of public employee, 55.84 per cent are career staff, 22.43 per cent are working staff and the rest of the staff (interim staff, temporary staff and other staff) is 21.73 per cent.
Another relevant fact is that 56.76% of the staff at the service of the public administrations are women and 43.24% are men.
