The Government invests more than 45 million euros in aid for the training of experts in microelectronics and semiconductors

    After the evaluation of the projects and the meeting of the Evaluation Committee - of which members of the Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service and the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities are members - it has been proposed to grant grants of 45 million euros to 17 initiatives presented in which 80 companies participate, individually or in consortium, for the establishment of university-company chairs in the area of microelectronics.

    This programme, aimed at financing university-business chairs in both public and private centres, will mobilise a public-private investment of 54.5 million euros. The aim of this aid is to strengthen research, dissemination and training in the field of microelectronics. Specifically, they focus on four areas: microelectronic circuit design, new materials and devices, technological processes, and chip testing and encapsulation.

    The Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures, María González Veracruz, stressed that this resolution “represents another important advance in the Government’s work to consolidate in Spain an ecosystem for the design and production of microchips. We will generate the talent needed to excel in this industry, with which we will achieve two major strategic objectives, the digital sovereignty of Europe and the generation of skilled and digital employment in our country.”

    Within the framework of the PERTE Chip and the European project to achieve digital sovereignty and strategic autonomy of the EU, the Government aims to train at least 1,000 professionals in this sector who demand highly qualified personnel with the Chairs Chip program, financed with the Next Generation EU funds.

    The projects submitted and beneficiaries of this grant to establish higher education in 17 Spanish universities will have a minimum duration of four years.
