The Government allocates 30 million euros to 94 R&D projects in audiovisual and video games

    The Ministry of Science and Innovation, through the Centre for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI), has published the final resolution of the call for Projects of R&D of Audiovisual and Videogames 2022 for which 30 million euros are allocated to 94 projects of SMEs off R&D.

    This aid is financed with funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan through the State Secretariat for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures (SETELECO), from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation.

    The objective of the call is to support projects for the development of new innovative technologies for application in the audiovisual field and video games for the achievement of prototypes of special effects and animation. Projects are also funded for implementation in other areas such as culture, health or education.

    A total of eleven Autonomous Communities have participated successfully in the call, being Madrid the one that is at the top in terms of contribution achieved (11,12 M€ grant contribution), followed by Catalonia (10,12 M€) and the Valencian Community (2,78 M€).

    The grants are aimed at the development of new equipment (lenses, cameras, sensors for motion capture, etc. ); the automation of production processes; and the development of artificial intelligence technologies for audiovisual production processes and the creation of video games.

    The call is part of the Plan to Boost the Audiovisual Sector Spain Audiovisual Hub of Europe; in the Digital Spain Agenda 2025; in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and in the State Plan for Scientific, Technical and Innovation Research 2021-2023.

    About Spain Audiovisual Hub

    The Plan to Boost the Spanish Audiovisual Sector, known as the Spain Audiovisual Hub, is one of the axes of the Spain Digital 2026 agenda that aims to promote production in the country, attract international investment and the talent to build a powerful ecosystem to compete in international markets.

    This strategy to boost the sector is part of the Recovery Plan and has a budget of more than 1,600 million euros until 2025. Part of these resources come from Next Generation funds EU.

    One of its objectives is to increase audiovisual production in the digital age by 30% and improve the attractiveness of the country.
