  • This is the first step to establish the map of areas where aid, financed with Next Generation EU funds, can be granted to projects to extend ultra-fast connectivity in 2023 in line with the Digital Spain agenda and the Recovery Plan

  • The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, through the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure, has launched the public consultation on the new bases governing the granting of aid from the UNICO-Broadband program and the preliminary identification of areas that do not have broadband coverage of at least 100 Mbps (download speed).

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, through the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure, has launched the public consultation on the new bases governing the granting of aid from the UNICO-Broadband program and the preliminary identification of areas that do not have broadband coverage of at least 100 Mbps (download speed).

One of the objectives of the consultation, open to interested agents as operators, the CNMC and the Public Administrations, is to define the areas eligible to develop projects eligible for UNICO Banca Ancha 2023 aid that will allow new households and companies to connect throughout the national territory.

This map of eligible areas can be consulted through a cartographic viewer on the Ministry’s website, such as the one of 2022. The definitive identification of these areas represents a further step towards the launch of the third call for this UNICO program launched in 2021 to promote ultra-fast connectivity of at least 100 Mbps for 100% of the population.

The consultation will remain open until June 22 and can be consulted in this link

    UNICO Broadband Program

The Digital Infrastructure for Cohesion Universalization Programme (UNICO) serves as a framework for different calls that will facilitate the universalization of ultra-fast broadband access and 5G extension.

Under the umbrella of UNICO, several programs have been launched within the framework of the Recovery Plan and the Spain Digital 2026 agenda, financed with the Next Generation EU funds to accelerate the extension of ultra-fast connectivity to the entire territory.

The projects benefiting from the UNICO Broadband 2021 and 2022 call are currently under implementation, with a joint budget of almost 500 million euros.

For the call for 2023, the regulatory bases have been modified to adapt to the new European regulation of State aid for the deployment of broadband networks.
