    El Marché du Film He has invited Spain to be the next guest of honor in the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. The Spanish participation will be organized by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, through ICEX Spain Export and Investment, and by the Ministry of Culture and Sport through the ICAA (Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts). This activity is also the result of collaboration with the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures, within the Plan “Spain, Hub Audiovisual of Europe”.

    The mention of Spain as a guest country of honor is also a recognition of the Spanish audiovisual sector, which is reaping great international successes. The most recent in the film sector are 20,000 species of bees, which won three awards at the 73rd Berlinale, and Pacifiction and As bestas that triumph in the César Awards of French cinema, successes that add to those harvested in 2022 by Alcarràs de Carla Simón (Golden Bear 2022 in Berlinale) and El limpiaparabrisas de Alberto Mielgo (Best animated short at the Oscars 2022).

    Spain is the second country to receive this privilege after India became a guest of honor in 2022.

Organised within the Cannes Film Festival from 16 to 24 May 2023, it brings together 12,500 professionals from the audiovisual industry in Cannes each year to present around 4,000 films and projects under development in 33 screening venues.

    Among the programming of Cinema from Spain for the edition of 2023 in the context of Spain as guest country of honor, the Spanish Spotlight within the Producers Network, the meeting for production professionals that brings together more than 400 producers from all over the world in the same space. Participation in the Producers NetworkIt is reserved for professionals who have produced in the last four years at least one feature film that has been commercially released in cinemas or on a content platform, ensuring the highest level of agreements. This initiative is part of the drive that is being given to international co-production by the Cinema from Spain in major international markets.

    Spanish professionals in the animation, documentary and extended reality sector will also have a privileged place in the different activities of networking, round tables, workshops and conferences of the Animation Day, Cannes Doc and Cannes XR respectively. The programmes Cannes Next e ImpACTLooking to the future of the entertainment sector and the environmental impact and sustainability respectively, Spanish experts will be involved in each area.

    The agreement extends to Short Film CornerIts mission is to promote connections between professionals in the direction, production, dissemination or promotion of short films, and in which it will highlight the collection of Spanish short films from school, welcoming also new creators and new creators who start their careers in the short film format and giving the opportunity to access the market also to emerging talent as a boost for the internationalization of their works and participate in training programs during their stay in Cannes.

    Finally, the Plan "Spain, Hub Audiovisual of Europe" in a conference that will take place in the Palais Stage​. This country plan has 15 measures grouped around four axes, to promote national audiovisual production, the attraction of investments and economic activity, as well as the strengthening of companies in the sector, improving their competitiveness through digitalization and support for talent, reducing the gender gap.
