The Government allocates 24.8 million European funds to six municipalities and deputies for the creation of a digital ecosystem in the audiovisual sector

    The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation has published the resolution of the call for grants to local entities of more than 100,000 inhabitants for the creation of a digital ecosystem within the audiovisual sector. A call that will help build a network throughout the national territory.

    The final resolution, managed and evaluated by the public business entity dependent on the Ministry, Red.es, awards 24.8 million euros of the funds Next Generation EU from the Recovery Plan to six projects to boost the implementation of local audiovisual infrastructures.

    Specifically, the resources will be allocated to the creation of audiovisual production centers, the implementation of co-working spaces for the design and development of video games and laboratories of creative industries, or the consultancy of SMEs, among others.

    This line of aid has been granted to the local governments of Murcia, Madrid and Pamplona, the Cabildo of Gran Canaria and the deputations of A Coruña and Barcelona, who have committed to cofinance the projects with local public resources and to have the support of SMEs of the region as established in the bases that regulate the call for aid.

    More than 120 SMEs the audiovisual sector will benefit directly from the European funds of the Recovery Plan thanks to this aid to local authorities. The support will materialize through the direct exploitation of the infrastructures or with the call for concessions to companies interested in providing the service for all the SMEsOf the sector.

    Local governments have committed themselves to various mentoring and advisory activities that foster the creation of that local digital ecosystem.

    This aid, aimed at local entities with more than 100,000 inhabitants, will be used to create or improve spaces for innovation, equipped with advanced technology.

    About Spain Audiovisual Hub

    The Plan to Boost the Spanish Audiovisual Sector, known as the Spain Audiovisual Hub, is one of the axes of the Spain Digital 2026 agenda that aims to promote production in the country, attract international investment and the talent to build a powerful ecosystem to compete in international markets.

    This strategy to boost the sector is part of the Recovery Plan and has a budget of more than 1,600 million euros until 2025.

    Part of these resources come from the funds Next Generation EU.

    One of its objectives is to increase audiovisual production in the digital age by 30% and improve the attractiveness of the country.

    Projects

    Madrid City Council. He presented a proposal to support the video game industry by creating a development center for 200 video game developers, which will host up to 20 studios, and dedicated to training, graphic design and 3D printing, AR, XR, VR showroom. It also provides a center for eSports and an experiential center for the dissemination of video game technologies.

    City Council of Murcia. It proposes to create an audiovisual and digital hub by establishing a hybrid audiovisual production stage equipped with LED screens and 3D technology, an audiovisual and video game creation laboratory, individual work capsules and a project testing centre.

    City Council of Pamplona. The project aims to create a laboratory and meeting space for companies in the creative and digital industries with special attention to animation and video games.

    Cabildo of Gran Canaria. Under the name of ‘Digital Crea Gran Canaria’, the project promotes the creation of a virtual extended reality studio to create real-time 3D virtual environments with dynamic and immersive backgrounds. It is part of the strategy to support the filming.

    Diputación de A Coruña. It proposes the creation of an immersive studio that makes available to companies emerging technology associated with virtual production through access to digital tools and linked to the process of shooting, recording, editing and VFX production.

    Diputación de Barcelona. The proposal focuses on the creation of a multi-device ‘Over The Top’ platform for local communication through the XAL that will allow local broadcasters access to a content platform that will include the signal of local broadcasters.
