The Government launches a call for grants for the experimental development of 5G applications in economic sectors

  • The BOEIt publishes the bases that regulate the granting of this aid, on a competitive basis, for 5G tractor projects that facilitate the application of this technology in a fast and agile way to key economic sectors of the country.

    The Official State Gazette has published the bases that regulate the granting of aid for the realization of projects of experimental development of 5G applications and services that affect the digital transformation of key economic sectors for the country, as well as its first call in the framework of the Recovery Plan and the program of Universalization of Digital Infrastructures for Cohesion, UNIQUESectoral 5G for 2022.

    This support is aimed at developing 5G tractor projects, through prototyping, demonstrations, pilot development, testing and product validation, that facilitate the application of this technology quickly and quickly to economic sectors such as connected vehicles, health, tourism, safety, agriculture, among others.

    It is estimated that the development of 5G technology will promote the transformation of the industry - 4th industrial revolution - and facilitate applications such as connected mobility, digital health, smart tourism or a digital agri-food sector.

    Beneficiaries who create jobs in Spain…

    The call for grants of 2022, endowed with 90.7 million euros and on a competitive basis, is aimed at companies and agencies for research and dissemination of knowledge whose main operating center is in Spain.

    In the regulatory bases for the granting of this aid, it is established that the beneficiaries will have to create in Spain the necessary employment for the provision of the activity subject to the grant.

    The projects financed will have a budget of between 3 and 15 million euros and can be developed individually or in cooperation. The 5G applications and services that are developed can be deployed on private networks, on a self-service basis, on public or mixed networks.

    The granting of this aid is part of the Recovery Plan and is aligned with the Digital Spain agenda and the strategy to promote the deployment of 5G launched by the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures so that Spain is one of the leading countries in the deployment of this technology.
