The Government launches a public consultation on the new regulation regulating the obligation to promote European audiovisual works
The Ministry of Economic Affairs, through the State Secretariat for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures, has launched a public consultation on the new regulation that develops the obligation to promote European audiovisual works after the entry into force of the General Law on Audiovisual Communication.
The consultation is aimed at obtaining the opinion of all the actors affected by the regulation that will develop, among other novelties, the minimum emission quotas in co-official languages of the provider of the public audiovisual communication service (RTVE), those of the providers of television audiovisual communication services on request, as well as the exemptions for audiovisual communication services established in Spain, but provided exclusively for other countries of the European Union. EU.
The new regulation will also specify the obligations for the advance financing of European audiovisual works, which will enter into force in the year 2023 according to the law.
This regulatory development responds to the new General Law on Audiovisual Communication, which entered into force at the beginning of July and modified the obligation to promote European audiovisual works. This standard aims to establish fair and equitable competition rules between different types of services and providers to achieve a competitive environment.
The new law, one of the milestones of the Recovery Plan in the reform section, aims to strengthen Spain as an audiovisual hub in Europe. Among its objectives, it highlights increasing the production made in the country by up to 30% in 2025.
