The Government launches a public consultation on the order of bases that regulates the aid for the connectivity of mobile sites by means of optical fiber
The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation has launched a public consultation on the order of bases that regulates the support for the connectivity of mobile sites through optical fiber within the framework of the UNICO 5G Grid-Backhaul Fiber Optic program.
These grants will boost and accelerate the deployment of 5G technology in scattered populations, national and cross-border roads and railways and in certain areas of the national territory to achieve mobile 5G coverage of 75% of the population by 2025.
One of the objectives of the consultation is to consolidate the map of sites of mobile networks without backhaul connection (return network) through optical fiber in municipalities of less than 20,000 inhabitants. This information helps to determine the eligible areas of the UNICO Program Backhaul Optical Fiber, intended to provide a return connection with sufficient capacity to allow the provision of high-performance 5G services.
The bases governing the granting of aid for the provision of connection connections are also submitted to all interested parties for consultation. Backhaul by means of optical fibre to the location of public mobile telephone networks.
Program of Universalization of Digital Infrastructures for Cohesion (UNICO)
The Digital Infrastructure for Cohesion Universalization Programme (UNICO) serves as a framework for different calls that will facilitate the universalization of ultra-fast broadband access and 5G extension. One of the goals of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and the Digital Spain Agenda is to achieve broadband coverage at least 100 Mbps for 100% of the population by 2025 and bring 5G technology coverage to 75% of the population.
