  • 5G infrastructure will facilitate the provision of advanced logistics services and freight traffic management, favoring the ecological transition towards more sustainable transport and in line with the Safe, Sustainable and Connected Mobility Strategy
  • The chosen locations where 5G technology will be deployed are logistic concentration zones or are part of national or international corridors: Barcelona and La Llagosta, Madrid-Vicálvaro, Sevilla, Valencia, Valladolid, Júndiz (Vitoria-Gasteiz) and Zaragoza
  • The deployment of 5G in corridors and railway infrastructures is a priority of the Strategy of promotion to 5G, included in the Plan of Recovery, Transformation and Resilience. The Plan foresees an investment of 1.5 billion euros to boost this technology
  • The Second Vice-President of the Government and Minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño, today announced an investment of 26 million euros to deploy, in collaboration with ADIF High Speed (AV), a 5G infrastructure at various points of the High Speed railway infrastructure network.

The Second Vice-President of the Government and Minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño, today announced an investment of 26 million euros to deploy, in collaboration with ADIF High Speed (AV), a 5G infrastructure at various points of the High Speed railway infrastructure network.
Thanks to this project, a 5G infrastructure will be deployed that will allow the provision of advanced logistics services with partial or total automation and that will facilitate the management of freight traffic.
5G deployment in rail corridors and infrastructure is one of the objectives of The 5G Technology Drive Strategy Since this technology is expected to have a high impact on the logistics and transport sector. It is a goal of the European Union to achieve the Gigabit Society and to ensure that the main land transport routes have uninterrupted coverage by 2025.
This transformative digitalisation project in the transport sector is also in line with the Safe, Sustainable and Connected Mobility Strategy, and will promote the ecological transition towards a more sustainable transport. In this way, progress is being made towards the EU objective that, by 2030, 30% of all freight transport within the framework of the European Union should be by rail.
The chosen places where 5G technology will be deployed are Barcelona and La Llagosta; Madrid-Vicálvaro; Seville; Valencia; Valladolid, Júndiz (Vitoria-Gasteiz) and Zaragoza. These points have been selected because they are logistics concentration zones, or they are part of national or international logistics corridors.
El Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan Among its priorities is the promotion of 5G technology since its technical characteristics (it allows hyper connectivity, that is, permanent, high-capacity and high-speed connections between people and machines) make it very disruptive for the economy and job creation. The plan foresees an investment of 1.5 billion euros for the promotion of this technology.
