    The Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure, Roberto Sánchez, will be part of the Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development of the United Nations, after accepting the invitation made by the Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Houlin Zhao.
    This commission, created in 2010 by ITU and UNESCO, aims to promote the deployment of broadband in all countries as a fundamental step to accelerate progress towards national and international development goals.
    The presence of Spain in this forum will allow to share the good practices and regulatory policies that have allowed in our country to reach a population coverage of 84% with a speed of 100 Mbps and 94% of 30 Mbps. The contributions made within the Commission will be part of the periodic reports published, among them, the annual report on the State of Broadband in the World, which is published coinciding with the opening of the sessions of the General Assembly of the United Nations.
    The Secretary of State for Telecommunications has indicated in his acceptance letter that the Spanish Government has established digital transformation as a priority and for this purpose has launched the Spain Digital 2025 agenda. One of the goals of the agenda is to achieve 100% ultra-fast broadband coverage to eliminate digital gaps and promote territorial cohesion.
    These goals are aligned with those of the Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development that seeks to achieve universal connectivity as a fundamental element of an inclusive and sustainable world.
    The Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development is led by the President, Paul Kagame, and Carlos Slim Helú, and co-chaired by the ITU Secretary-General, Mr. Houlin Zhao, and the Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay.
    In addition, it is composed of more than 50 members, representing a group of senior executives and leaders in the sector, legislators and government representatives, and experts from international agencies, academic institutions and organizations dealing with development issues.
