The Government grants new aid of more than 36 million euros to extend ultra-fast broadband to more than 156,000 homes and premises in 12 provinces

    The government will grant new grants amounting to 36.84 million euros to extend ultra-fast broadband to more than 156,000 homes and premises in 12 provinces.
    This is stated in the provisional resolution of the call for the New Generation Broadband Extension Program (PEBA-NGA) 2021 that has been published today. These 12 projects will generate investments of 66.02 million euros. The Programme is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
    The grants will allow 156,404 real estate units (homes and commercial premises) in 790 unique entities of population to benefit from new generation broadband access with access speed greater than 300 Mbps (scalable to 1 Gbps). The grants go to the 12 projects that in the call for 2020 did not receive valid proposals that met the requirements.
    This call, resolved in November 2020, awarded grants of 105 million to 33 projects, with investments of 186 million euros, to extend broadband coverage to more than 653,000 households and companies.
    The provinces where the projects of this call will be developed are Almería, Granada, Jaén, Málaga, Huesca, Teruel, Zaragoza, Balearic Islands, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Alicante, Cáceres and Murcia.

    PEBA Program 2013-2021
    This call is the latest in a program that began in 2013 and that, when the projects in the implementation phase are completed, will have contributed to the coverage of 100 Mbps broadband reaching about 93% of the population.
    In this period of time, the PEBA-NGA has mobilized 798 projects through more than 100 operators, with investments of 1.123 billion euros, of which 621 million euros are public aid.
    These projects will have provided home fiber network (FTTH) coverage to 6.3 million real estate units in more than 20,000 unique population entities.
    Spain Digital 2025
    The Spain Digital 2025 agenda has among its objectives to guarantee adequate digital connectivity for 100% of the population. The Plan for Digital Connectivity and Infrastructure is the first goal of the agenda. It has a budget of 583 million euros in 2021 and 2,320 million until 2025, financed through the European Union Resilience and Recovery Fund.
