Spain has once again revalidated for the fourth consecutive year the leadership among the members of the Alliance for Open Government (OGP) with the celebration of 1,778 initiatives during the Open Administration Week, which is celebrated from May 19 to 25, organized mainly by the Ministries, Autonomous Communities, Municipalities and public sector entities.
Open Government Week is an initiative promoted by the Alliance for Open Government worldwide. This organization, where governments and civil society are represented, seeks to promote a relationship between public administrations and citizens that is based on the values of transparency and integrity, civic participation and promotion of fundamental rights, and accountability.
The Open Government Week initiative aims to bring public administrations closer to citizens. The events held in each State are communicated to the Alliance so that they can be known by the other members and the latter can know the impact of the initiative on each member of the Alliance.
In May 2018, the Open Administration Week in Spain was celebrated for the first time. In it, all the ministries, some Autonomous Communities and municipalities participated through the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces. In total, a total of 347 events were held. Seven years later, the number of initiatives reached 1,778, with the most numerous open days, followed by workshops and courses, and guided tours.
The Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service has organized in the INAP the Day Transforming the State: the role of the administration in the 50 years of Spain in Freedom; in addition, at the headquarters of the Ministry will be held for two consecutive days a presentation for students of 4th of the ESO and 1st of Baccalaureate of the project of acquisition of talent: What do public employees do in the Ministry? MUFACE, for its part, will carry out face-to-face workshops for mutualists from 55 years old to explain the process of managing the electronic headquarters, as well as the request for benefits through it.
Spain has been a member of the Open Government Alliance since its foundation in 2011. In March 2023, she submitted her candidacy to the Open Government Alliance Steering Committee and was selected, along with the United States and Kenya, to be part of it. Subsequently, from 1 October 2023 he co-chairs the Steering Committee of the OGP together with Cielo Magno, representative of civil society, and in October 2025, coinciding with the end of the mandate, he will organize the celebration in Vitoria-Gasteiz of the IX Global Open Government Summit.
