- It will be articulated by a strategic grouping of five technology centers: Technological Institute of Informatics (ITI) of Valencia, the CTIC Foundation of Asturias, Eurecat of Catalonia, the Technological Institute of Galicia (ITG) and Tecnalia of the Basque Country
- He will work to extend the adoption, development and application of artificial intelligence in different strategic sectors: health, ‘pharma’ and ‘biotech’, energy, agriculture, climate and blue economy, finance and legal, and communication and media.
- The Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service has allocated an investment of 2.7 million euros to the implementation of these nodes, which will be carried out by the UTE AI4ES
The Government of Spain advances in the development of the Artificial Intelligence Factory of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center-National Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS), extending the technological and scientific capabilities and resources of this infrastructure throughout the territory, with the implementation of five sector nodes.
The initiative, promoted by the Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service, through the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, involves a strategic group of five technology centers that support the activity in solidarity, with transversal activities and collaboration between them, serving the entire strategic sector throughout the country. It is TECNALIA of the Basque Country, coordinator of the network, which will dynamize the node of Health, Pharma and Biotech; the CTIC Foundation of Asturias, in charge of the node of Agriculture, Climate and Blue Economy; Eurecat in Catalonia, for the sectoral node of Communication and Media; Technological Institute of Galicia (ITG), to promote the node of Energy; and the Technological Institute of Informatics (ITI) of Valencia, which will deal with the node of Finance and Legal. These centers are officially recognized by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, within the RED CERVERA program, which recognizes centers of high scientific and technological capacity, and experience in R&D.
To this end, the BSC-CNS has awarded 2.7 million euros to the creation of the sector nodes to the AI4ES UTE, which works in a coordinated way to develop and promote technologies based on AI and data.
Adoption of AI in strategic sectors and SMEs
The sectoral nodes are structures of dynamization and accompaniment aimed at promoting the adoption, development and application of artificial intelligence in strategic sectors for the Spanish economy, especially, between SMEs and representative organizations of each sector, and with impact throughout the territory, dynamizing the ecosystem in a virtual way and with different events that can be carried out in different cities. Specifically, it will work in five specialized nodes in different strategic sectors: health, ‘pharma’ and ‘biotech’, energy, agriculture, climate and blue economy, finance and legal, communication and media.
The project aims to systematically analyze the needs and potentialities of each sector in terms of AI, adapting the actions annually and strategically; promote the creation of applied AI solutions, with real impact on the processes, products or services of the corresponding sector; and connect the sectoral agents with the capabilities of the Artificial Intelligence Factory of the BSC-CNS, including its technological and scientific resources.
The first event will be held on June 16, a workshop in online format, with open capacity for all agents and companies of the different strategic sectors, and will serve as a presentation of the program, as well as allowing to carry out a participatory dynamic to identify the first challenges and sectoral needs on which to start working. It is also planned to hold a hybrid event in Barcelona, with online monitoring and networking workshops for SMEs before the end of the year.
