The Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities has announced it at the presentation of the new National Deep Tech Strategy promoted by the Government of Spain through 13 ministries, in which the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, María González Veracruz, has participated.

· The initiative aims to transform the scientific potential of our country into technological leadership

· Diana Morant has given as an example the WISER project, in the field of nuclear fusion, whose investment will reach 500 million euros and is the result of the alliance between the Center for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT), the Center for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI) and the company Técnica Reunidas

· He has said that more than 70% of the planned funds will go directly to the productive fabric to accompany the scaling of projects, their industrialization and their departure to international markets

The Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant, announced today that the Government of Spain will mobilize 8 billion euros until 2030 in the development of the National Deep Tech Strategy, a country plan with the objective of transforming scientific potential into technological leadership in our country.

Minister Morant stressed that this strategy, which leads the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities together with the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Service and eleven other ministries, “will allow us to place Spain at the forefront not only in research, but also in the development, manufacture and application of the most cutting-edge technology.”

“We have the talent, the research capacity and the companies needed to lead this new technological revolution. With this strategy we give the definitive impulse to turn ideas into prosperity,” said the minister.

The Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, María González Veracruz, he said that “we are not just talking about technology, we are talking about social change, economic change, welfare, health, employment, sustainability. And, for that reason, the Deep tech They need determined public support and democratic guidance. We cannot leave them in the hands of large corporations.”

In addition, he stressed that “the Government of Spain is clear: science and technology must be at the service of the common good, with ethical development, responsible and respectful of human rights and with people always at the center, with criteria of cohesion and equity, leaving no one behind. And that is the powerful voice that leads Spain in Europe and in the world.”

Axes of the Deep Tech Strategy

The Strategy will be structured around three main axes:

1. Strengthen scientific and technological capabilities.

2. Strengthen the business fabric from research to the market.

3. Build a coordinated ecosystem between public administrations, research centers and companies.

It will focus on strategic areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, biotechnology, advanced robotics, new materials, semiconductors and clean energies.

These technologies require long periods of research and high investments before they reach the market, a phase known as the “valley of death”, where many innovative projects fail to consolidate.

Morant has given as an example the WISER project, in the field of nuclear fusion, the same energy that feeds the stars in the cosmos, applied here, on Earth. This project, whose investment will reach 500 million euros, is the result of the alliance between the Center for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT), the Center for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI) and the company Técnica Reunidas.
