Madrid, October 23, 2024. The Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Service, through the Secretary of State for Digitization and Artificial Intelligence, has published the proposal for a provisional resolution of the call for grants aimed at the creation of Sectoral Data Spaces.
The motion for a resolution provides for support for 90 innovative projects, with an investment of over EUR 83 million, which will mobilise almost EUR 136 million in addition to the contributions of the beneficiaries.
These initiatives, spread across key sectors such as health, agri-food and sustainable mobility, seek to boost productivity, competitiveness and efficiency through the sharing of data between manufacturers, researchers and infrastructure providers. With these projects, strategic sectors will be able to extract value from data, enhancing informed decision-making, technological innovation and resource optimization.
Strategic impact in key sectors
The development of Sectoral Data Spaces marks a milestone in the country’s digital economy. The productive sectors show a high interest in the data economy, which favors the growth of the digital industry and technological transformation in critical areas such as:
● Health: Initiatives that promote the sharing of clinical data between hospitals, applying artificial intelligence to improve the diagnosis and early detection of diseases, such as cancer, through image analysis.
● Agri-food: Projects that integrate data from IoT sensors and aerial photographs to improve crop efficiency, adding data from several companies, as well as data with weather forecasts, which will optimize crop efficiency contributing to a more sustainable agriculture.
● Sustainable Mobility: Use cases in which local and regional public transport companies will share data with private companies to optimize routes, improve the supply-demand balance and increase profitability, all with a positive impact on the service to the citizen.
Distribution of beneficiaries
Of the total grants proposed, 63% of the projects selected were submitted by private entities, which will receive 45% of the total grant. On the other hand, 37% of the projects are promoted by public bodies, which will receive 55% of the total amount. This distribution reflects a strategic balance between public-private collaboration, ensuring that both companies and public institutions are actively involved in boosting the data economy.
