Madrid, April 2, 2024.- The Government of Spain, through the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function, the City of Granada, the University of Granada and ADIA Lab have reaffirmed their commitment to continue moving forward with the progress made in 2023.

  1. ADIA Lab and the City Council of Granada have identified a possible location for the headquarters of ADIA Lab Europe in Granada – The Old Health Hospital. ADIA Lab is evaluating the concession of this building, which will be decided by public tender. The transformation of the Old Hospital into a research center requires considerable planning work, and ADIA Lab has engaged with technicians to organize the necessary works. ADIA Lab maintains its commitment to Granada and, if necessary, other alternatives for the location of the headquarters in the city will be considered.
  2. ADIA Lab will organize three international events in Granada during 2024 in collaboration with the University of Granada. These events are: ADIA Lab's Workshop on Climate Science en abril, ADIA Lab's Summer School on Trustworthy and Ethical AI en junio, y ADIA Lab's Summer School on Competitive Machine Learning. Spanish researchers are expected to participate in these events.
  3. ADIA Lab has implemented the five research programs that are detailed in the memorandum of understanding, connecting Spanish Universities and Research Centers (Granada, Salamanca, Santiago, Instituto de Salud Carlos III, Jaume I) with important research centers around the world, including EE.UU. (Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Cornell), Canadá (Toronto), Europa (ETH, Universidad de Zurich, EDHEC), y EAU (Universidad Khalifa, MBZUAI). This collaboration has resulted in multiple peer-reviewed publications and presentations at international scientific conferences.

By 2024, Spanish researchers who are collaborating on the aforementioned activities with ADIA Lab have received the necessary funds, and all the activities are still ongoing. The Government of Spain maintains its commitment to financially support Spanish researchers who collaborate with ADIA Lab and, to this end, continues to collaborate actively with the corresponding Universities and Research Centers.

It is important to note that ADIA Lab is fully funded by the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. ADIA Lab has not received, nor will it receive, any funding from any authority in Spain, be it national, regional or local. ADIA Lab will contribute funds and resources of great importance to its collaboration with Spain. Regardless of where it is finally located, the headquarters will be funded by ADIA Lab.

Mayte Ledo, Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, on behalf of the Government of Spain, and Dr. Horst Simon, Director of ADIA Lab, commented on the most important advances made to date: "The Government of Spain, the City of Granada, the University of Granada and ADIA Lab are very pleased with the progress made to date, and continue to trust that this close collaboration will bring great benefits to all parties involved."
