The Government supports the birth of the Gais-X Association for Spain to lead the data economy in Europe
Today, the constitutive event of the Gais-X Spain Association in Talavera de la Reina (Toledo) was held, creating in the region a hub of the data economy that will allow the development of the national business fabric focused on the creation of open data spaces to promote their sharing in a secure way.
This initiative is part of the Digital Spain Agenda promoted by the Government, which has among its axes to move towards a data economy, taking advantage of the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence and Big Data so that at least 25% of companies use these technologies in 2025.
The constitutive act of the Gais-X Spain Association was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño, who expressed the support of the Government for Spain to lead the data economy in Europe, and in particular, the European tourism data space.
Gais-X is a private European initiative for the creation of a federated and open data infrastructure. It is an industry contribution to Europe’s digital autonomy in cloud computing and storage, offering a secure alternative for data producers to control access and reuse.
Spain joined this project in 2021 to boost the data economy in the country Since then, a promoter group made up of 57 entities of the data sharing ecosystem, among which there are entities of the public sector, such as administrations, universities and research and innovation centers, and the private sector – both large companies and companies. SMEs and start-ups, has worked to draft the statutes and to form the association.
Last December, the promoters chose Talavera de la Reina as the official venue for the association of twelve nominations. The constitution of the Gais-X Spain Association, to which more than 180 entities are expected to join, in turn represents the official launch of the hubwhich has a website in which the Junta de Castilla-La Mancha has participated www.gaiax.es.
Bilateral meeting
After participating in the institutional event, the First Vice-President and the President of the Board of Castilla-La Mancha held a working meeting at the Regional Innovation Center in which they discussed the deployment of the investments of the Recovery Plan with special attention to renewable energies and strategic projects that represent a magnificent opportunity for the productive fabric of the region.
Calviño and García-Page have shared the analysis of measures that will be promoted by the Government to reduce the price of energy and that may be included in the National Plan of Response to the Impact of the War announced by President Pedro Sánchez.
In statements to the media after the meeting, the First Vice-President has pointed out the opportunity represented by the Recovery Plan for the economy of the region, whose deployment is accelerating in 2022, due to its extraordinary strategic position.
In 2021, 698 million euros were transferred to Castilla-La Mancha under the Recovery Plan, 602 million for direct management by the Board of Communities. Of these, more than half have been allocated to public policies associated with the energy transition.
