The Government receives the Global Mobile 2022 Award for Government Excellence for Driving Digitalization and Connectivity
The First Vice-President and Minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño, has today received the award Global Mobile 2022 to governmental excellence, granted by the association GSMA to the Government of Spain for its global leadership in establishing public policies for digitization and mobile connectivity.
During the inauguration of the ministerial day in the XVII edition of the Mobile World Congressfrom Barcelona, this award has been presented which, for the first time, the Spanish Government receives as recognition of a humanist digital edition that puts people at the center.
This is one of the elements that, according to GSMA, primacy for awarding the prize, along with the approval of the Digital Rights Charter. In July 2021, the government adopted this letter, which provides a frame of reference for guaranteeing citizens’ rights in the new digital reality.
“This award recognizes the effort we are making, which has been concretized in that Digital Spain Agenda and which we are promoting thanks to European funds. It also recognizes Spain’s leadership in the public policies that are being developed in the field of digital transformation at a European and global level,” said the first vice-president in statements to the media.
As a sign of the good results that are being given by the policies implemented by the Government within the framework of the Digital Spain Agenda, the Vice-President recalled that the digital economy generated 22% of the GDP In 2020, three points more than in 2019.
He also stressed that Spain is one of the top three countries with the best connectivity in Europe and that the Government’s goal is for ultra-fast broadband to reach 100% of the population, an action that is being deployed through the Program. UNIQUEincluded in the Recovery Plan.
