The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, through the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, is promoting the creation of a national hub for Gais-X, a non-profit business association whose objective is to accelerate European capacity in data sharing and digital sovereignty.
For the deployment of this initiative, aimed at boosting the data economy in Spain, a manifestation of interest is launched to identify stakeholders from industry, associations, technology centers and other interest groups in participating in the ecosystem and in the definition of this public-private partnership. To do this, these entities are invited to register their interest by responding to the form that can be found in this link before July 12th.
Once the entities that have registered their interest are known, the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence will organize a workshop with the industry, research centers, associations and other interested parties in which the mechanism of collaboration and its link with the Spanish hub of GAIS-X will be defined.
The objective of this initiative is to deploy a solid ecosystem in the field of data sharing, mainly industrial. With this, in addition, Spain aspires to lead data spaces in strategic sectors such as health or tourism.
This ecosystem can become the reference where sectoral industries come together to create a community around data, search for new solutions and promote innovation based on data and AI in their sector. On the other hand, it is also an essential step for the deployment of data governance, channeling and implementing the reference architectures in the sectors, and integrating SMEs and microSMEs to the data spaces, accompanying them in their training and in the implementation of use cases based on data and AI.
Spain will join the Government Council of Gaia -X
The Government of Spain will be integrated into the Governmental Advisory Board of GAIS-X. With this addition, Spain will contribute to generating a common European data infrastructure with a cloud component that represents a secure alternative in the market and provides access control and reuse capacity for those who produce the data. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, through the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, will be in charge of representing Spain in the Government Council of GAIS-X.
With the addition to GAIS-X, Spain contributes to generating a common European data infrastructure with a cloud component that represents a secure alternative in the market and provides access control and reuse capacity for those who produce the data. The aim is to ensure data availability, interoperability, portability and that companies comply with European standards and European values.
Spain's commitment to data economy
These initiatives are part of the strategy Spain Digital 2025, which highlights the need to support the digitisation of certain sectors of the Spanish economy, in particular tourism, health, mobility, agri-food and e-commerce.
This digitalization must be built on data spaces in these sectors, interoperable with European spaces, without prejudice to other data spaces that the industry has an interest in developing (for example, on environment, finance, energy, manufacturing, education, justice or public administrations).
The Government of Spain is working intensively to create a favorable environment, through the various initiatives on data economy detailed in the aforementioned Spain Digital 2025 and are deployed in the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, in the Plan for Digital Connectivity and Infrastructures and in Strategy for Boosting 5G Technology. All these priorities are part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan which takes the opportunity of Next Generation EU funds to boost it.
Data is at the heart of the great transformations that digital technologies are causing in today’s world. Data is part of the digital economy’s infrastructure, so no digital economy can be consolidated and globally competitive without a robust data economy. According to da
