The Government launches tender to buy more than 100,000 computers with connectivity for vulnerable students from Castilla y León, Valencia, Madrid, Navarra and the Basque Country

  • This is the second tender for the mass purchase of digital equipment for open learning after the one launched in October last year to provide 100,000 computers and tablets to students from the Autonomous Communities of Aragón, Asturias, Baleares, Canarias, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Galicia and the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla.
  • The Educa en Digital Program, launched last June, aims to close the technological social gap and ensure access for all students to digital learning, both at home and at school, by purchasing computers and tablets for more than 435,000 students, developing digital education methodologies and training teachers

  • The Council of Ministers, on the proposal of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, has authorised the tender for the Educational Post in the Home programme for Castilla y León, Comunidad Valenciana, Madrid, Navarra and the Basque Country under the Educa en Digital programme, the aim of which is to support the digital transformation of education in Spain by supporting the most vulnerable pupils. The amount of this action amounts to almost 50 million euros, of which the public company Red.es will contribute almost 40 million through the FEDER funds and, the rest, will be cofinanced by the autonomous communities.

    The Council of Ministers, on the proposal of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, has authorized the tender of the performance Educational Position in the Hogar for Castilla y León, Comunidad Valenciana, Madrid, Navarra and Basque Country within the program Educa en Digital whose objective is to support the digital transformation of education in Spain by supporting the most vulnerable students. The amount of this action amounts to almost 50 million euros, of which the public company Red.es will contribute almost 40 million through the FEDER funds and, the rest, will be cofinanced by the autonomous communities.
    This action involves the acquisition of more than 100,000 computer equipment with connectivity that will facilitate digital education, both at home and in person, to students from vulnerable families who study in educational centers supported by public funds of these autonomous communities.
    The distribution of these educational positions in the home by autonomous communities is as follows: 7.283 for Castilla y León, 50.908 for the Valencian Community, 30.656 for Madrid, 3.150 for Navarre and 8.366 for the Basque Country.
    This is the second tender launched after last October to provide more than 100,000 computers and tablets to students from the autonomous communities of Aragón, Asturias, Baleares, Canarias, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Galicia and the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla. It is expected that the first equipment will be made available in the month of March.
    Educa en Digital
    The Educa en Digital program was approved by the Council of Ministers on June 16, 2020 and aims to provide educational centers with equipment with reliable and quality connectivity so that they can be provided and made available to students who do not have this equipment to access education with digital media, both at home and in the educational center itself.
    It also includes another series of actions such as the provision of applications, tools and curricular resources that facilitate digital education, both face-to-face, in the center, and from home, and the training of teachers, in order to provide the educational community with digital educational resources.
    The programme will initially mobilise EUR 230 million, of which Red.es will provide a maximum initial budget of up to EUR 190 million, with cofinancing from ERDF funds.
    Following the procedures established for the implementation of the structural funds for the period 2014-2020 in Spain, the program requires the signing of agreements between the Autonomous Communities and Red.es for the realization of separate tenders following the indications and requirements determined by the educational authorities.
    Financing and distribution by autonomous communities
    Castilla y León: 4,345,002 €, of which 3,476,001 € are contributed by Red.es
    Valencian Community: 26.366.165 €, of which 21.092.932 € are contributed by Red.es
    Madrid: 13,707,051 €, of which 10,965,641 € are contributed by Red.es
    Navarre: 1.513.545€, of which 1.210.836€ are contributed by Red.es
    Basque Country: 3,953,648€, of which 3,162,918€ are contributed by Red.es
