• The Spanish Agency for Supervision of Artificial Intelligence begins its on-site activity in A Coruña with the celebration of its Governing Council • The staff already incorporated into the work of the Agency is located in the building Casa de Veeduría, where it will remain for the duration of the works of La Terraza • The Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Function, Oscar López, and the Secretary of State for Digitization and Artificial Intelligence have visited the headquarters this Friday

The Spanish Agency for Artificial Intelligence Supervision (AESIA) held its Governing Council today, coinciding with the beginning of its face-to-face activity at the headquarters of Casa de Veeduría in A Coruña. The Governing Council is, together with the Presidency, the governing body of the Agency, which is responsible for the high management of the entity, as well as establishing its general guidelines for action.

This Governing Council, made up of six representatives of various ministries, an expert in Artificial Intelligence and the Director General of the AESIA, meets today for the first time in person in A Coruña to take stock of the first months of activity and establish the objectives of the Agency for 2025.

The celebration of the Governing Council coincides with the beginning of the face-to-face activity of the workers of the AESIA in the central Casa de Veeduría of A Coruña, after its installation this February. The AESIA has a space on the first floor of the building, which will be the temporary headquarters of the Agency, while the integral reform of La Terraza, official destination of the AESIA, is carried out.

Taking advantage of the meeting, the Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Function, Óscar López, visited the headquarters of the AESIA in Veeduría, together with the Secretary of State for Digitization and Artificial Intelligence, María González Veracruz, who is also the President of the Agency.

This is an important milestone for the Agency; both for its employees, who had initially developed their functions in the teleworking modality; and for the entity itself, which already has a workspace and collaboration that will allow it to continue growing and developing all the functions entrusted to it by Spanish and European legislation.

Following the adoption of the European Artificial Intelligence Regulation, AESIA assumes a crucial role in monitoring compliance with this regulation, the ultimate purpose of which is consumer protection. The Agency is also key to moving towards a reliable, ethical and human-centred AI and is a pioneer in Europe, a mirror that other countries are already looking at. In addition, it is a fundamental institution for the promotion of the Artificial Intelligence ecosystem in Spain, and, especially, SMEs and startups with fewer resources, since the AESIA will accompany them in meeting the requirements of the new legislation and, in general, in their process of integrating a safe and reliable AI into their processes. The on-site incorporation of the AESIA to this house of Veeduría is also a further step in the decentralization of the State Administration, and it is from a city like A Coruña, which has an important university ecosystem both in training and in research related to Artificial Intelligence and with a powerful business fabric in the ICT sector.

To this exciting milestone for the Agency, is added the recent publication of its website, which is already available through https://aesia.digital.gob.es/es
