The OECD presents in Casa Mediterráneo the report on the gender gap in education

29/06/2023

On Wednesday, June 28, Casa Mediterráneo hosted the presentation of the 2023 Report of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development on the Gender Gap in Education. This is a baseline study on gender issues, which examines existing barriers to achieving gender equality in education, particularly in segregation in career choice, and the labour market, with the aim of improving policies and promoting equity in these areas.

The report tries to understand why teens who get good academic results in reading, math and science, largely decide not to pursue science and technology careers and disrupt the development of competencies in areas like math and science, compared to boys.

The report also describes that, although the overall differences between men and women in math and science outcomes are rather small, young women are still underrepresented in the STEM (acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields after leaving school. At university, men develop more mathematical skills than women, probably due to the very different professional choices they and they choose, the research notes.

On these issues, participants discussed the round table available on the channel. You Tube of Casa Mediterráneo.
