Council and Parliament agree to make digital public services more efficient in the EU

15/11/2023

The Presidency of the Council and the European Parliament have reached an interim agreement on the proposed legislation on measures on a high level of public sector interoperability throughout the EU (Law on European Interoperability).

The aim of the regulation is to create a network of interconnected digital public administrations and speed up the digital transformation of the European public sector.

The new legislation encourages the creation of a new cooperation framework for EU public administrations to ensure the seamless delivery of cross-border public services, and to provide support measures that promote innovation and enhance the exchange of skills and knowledge.

The new standard will establish an interoperability governance structure with a view to creating an ecosystem of shared interoperability solutions for the EU public sector. In this way, EU public administrations will be able to contribute to these solutions and reuse them, innovate together and create added value.
