In the period from January 1, 2010 to January 1, 2020, the public administrations of the Autonomous Communities have experienced a workforce growth of 12.50%. The Autonomous Community of Catalonia has increased its strength most, followed by the Autonomous Communities of Aragon and the Basque Country. On the contrary, the cities of Ceuta and Melilla have seen their staff diminished.

At the present time, staff in the service of the Autonomous Communities account for almost 60% of total public employment, while in these years the General Government of the State has become the smallest of the three public administrations.

It is noted that in the Autonomous Communities the largest number of troops is concentrated, basically, in the services of the Welfare State, especially in the health and educational services.
