October 22, 2024.- The Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Function, Óscar López, visited this Tuesday the Satellite Control Center (CCS) of Hispasat, located in the town of Arganda del Rey in Madrid.
López visited the premises and the antenna field, and met with the Chairman of Hispasat, Pedro Duque, and his CEO, Miguel Ángel Panduro, with whom he reviewed the company’s main projects. Among them, the Conéctate 35 program, funded by the ministry through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which allows to cover 100% of the Spanish territory with broadband connection through satellite, at low cost and with installation assistance.
In addition to this program, the minister received information about other Hispasat projects oriented to the rural environment, such as teleducation initiatives (which allow access to the Internet via satellite to the students and staff of the rural school), telemedicine (which favor the installation of teleconsults connected via satellite by means of a video conference to a hospital center where specialist doctors are located) or Smart agro (which promote the management of farms through satellite connectivity, regardless of the geographical location of the crops).
López has also been interested in the participation of Hispasat – through the SpaceRise consortium – in Iris 2, a program designed by the European Commission and the European Space Agency that will define the future of secure European satellite communications. Hispasat is the only Spanish company involved in this project conceived to guarantee the strategic autonomy of the European Union, with innovative European developments and driven by public-private collaboration.
